Massage with essential oils is one of the most important applications of aromatherapy, combining as it does the therapeutic power of touch with the amazing nurturing properties of nature’s very individual essential oils, chosen for a particular person at a specific time. Melding perfectly the qualities within nature & nurturing to give the body, mind & spirit the safe cosy environment to just be …leave your busy thoughts at the treatment room door and r...e...l…a...x.
The association of aromas and situations can be a useful tool within aromatherapy, massage almost always relaxes the muscles on a physical level to relax the mind can take the use of relaxation and or essential oils. A blend of oils are chosen with the client, and when together we are happy that a good therapeutic blend and one that’s aroma brings pleasure to the sense of smell, the oils are then used to warm and massage the body absorbed by the skin and inhaled through the respiratory system effecting the emotions and so helping to deeply relax body, mind & spirit.
The brain stores the memory of an aroma so when the aroma is used again it can invoke the feelings of relaxation that you experiences within the massage experience. This mechanism is very useful for people who have difficulties with stress, anxiety, and nervous tension as they can use the blend at home to help them to feel calm in there every day life.
Reflexology is a deeply relaxing and healing treatment where the client can stay fully clothed apart from the lower legs and feet. An aromatherapy foot cream is blended with essential oils that are specific to your needs and this massaged on to the legs and feet toward the end of the treatment and the therapeutic properties of the oils will continue to work for hours after your treatment has finished.
As a reflexologist I apply gentle but firm pressure systematically with my thumb or finger to the reflexes/zones of the feet. Where I feel a problem or weakness exist in an area of the body I may spend some time working that particular reflex.
It is believed that this stimulates specific reflex areas with the intention of producing a beneficial response in other areas of the body.
Many people report they feel a greater sense of wellbeing after reflexology.
Reiki/Healing is a very individual experience, and for me is as much a part of me as my relationship with the natural world and to describe it is a difficult one.
Through this practice my intention is to create a space where the client can go into a place of deep relaxation, where it is my belief that within this deepening state of consciousness the body, mind & spirit can begin to heal.
The client remains fully clothed; I place my hands on or above the body moving from time to time. A feeling of deep peace maybe felt, some people can feel emotion others may simply fall asleep.
The added dimension of aroma can be used within this treatment. many essential oils are regarded as antidepressants, sedatives or uplifting Geranium,Jasmine,Benzoin,Frankincence,Lavander to name but a few . A blend can be created for you and atomised within the room which is then inhaled for therapeutic effect.
I came to complementary therapies through working within the medical profession for many years and being part of a busy rescue team. Within this time I came across many people who responded to touch and being listened to, and so my journey into complementary therapies began, I trained at Kendal College and privately run courses in healing work and holistic facials. I continue to build on my knowledge embarking on advanced aromatherapy next year.
